INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED APPROACHES

We tailor our approach individually for each person using our services, as we believe that we should adapt to the lifestyles and needs of every person we work with, and only through this approach can we provide a superior service and satisfactory results.

HIGHEST LEVELS OF EXPERTISE

Our greatest asset is our holistic approach to voice, speech and language impediments. Those employed at the VaLMod Centre are experts who hold a degree from the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation and who have, over the past decade, continuously improved their skill sets at the Svetlana Masgutova Educational Institute in Orlando, Florida (USA).

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

Our Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) Centre is the most modern of its kind in Croatia. For thirty years we have been using biofeedback in our stutter treatment therapies as well as our own innovative and sophisticated devices which have resulted from our years of work in SALT. We have installed devices which stimulate the nervous system and aim to create the automatisms required for good reading, writing and speech.

The VaLMod Centre offers several intensive (re)habilitation programmes for people who stutter and for children who have reading or writing disorders (dyslexia or dysgraphia).

Stutter rehabilitation programmes are available in four forms:

The 12 Day VaLMod Stutter Therapy Programme

This Programme can be attended by people who stutter and are coming for therapy for the first time. The Programme lasts 12 days and includes around 15 hours of therapy a day, so a certain level of emotional, cognitive and motor skill acuity is required. Therefore, the Programme has been designed for children aged 11 and upwards, although there is no upper age limit. It is required that at least one parent is in attendance during therapy sessions for children aged between 11 and 15, so they can apply these methods and techniques at home. The Programme consists of one-week of intensive in isolated conditions, while the second week includes continual expose to real high-risk situations which boosts both automatisms and confidence.

The 8 Day VaLMod Stutter Therapy Programme

This Programme can be attended by children who stutter and are coming for therapy for the first time. The programme lasts 8 days and includes around 10 hours of therapy a day. The Programme has been designed for children aged between 8 and 11, and it is required that at least one parent is in attendance during therapy sessions so they can learn and apply these methods and techniques at home. The Programme consists of one-week intensive preparation in isolated conditions, so that children, when they need to speak properly, can apply the practice.

The 5 Day VaLMod Stutter Therapy Programme

This Programme can be attended by people who stutter and have already attended the 12 Day VaLMod Stutter Therapy Programme. The Programme lasts 5 days and includes around 15 hours of therapy a day. Since this builds on the automated speech techniques taught earlier, these five days of rehabilitation focus on increasing speech speed and maintaining the prerequisites for good speech. It is required that at least one parent is in attendance during therapy sessions for children aged between 11 and 15, so they can apply these methods and techniques at home.

The 5 Day VaLMod Pre-school Stutter Therapy Programme

This Programme can be attended by children who stutter and are coming for therapy for the first time. The Programme lasts 5 days and includes around 8 hours of therapy a day. The Programme has been designed for children aged between 5 and 8. The Programme includes five-days intensively using different techniques and procedures that will create the basic prerequisites for good speech. It is required that at least one parent is in attendance so they can apply these methods and techniques at home.

Reading or writing disorder (dyslexia or dysgraphia) programme includes:
The 6 Day VaLMod Rea-Wri Programme for Children with Reading and/or Writing Disorders (Dyslexia and/or Dysgraphia)

This Programme has been designed to prepare pre-school children with the necessary prerequisites for reading and writing, as well as school children (Grades 1 through 8 in Croatia) who have difficulty reading or writing. It lasts 6 days and includes around 10 hours of therapy a day to stimulate the neuro-sensory motor systems necessary for good reading and writing techniques. It is required that at least one parent is in attendance so they can apply these methods and techniques at home.

The 4 Day VaLMod Programme for Children and Adults Suffering from Hoarseness

This Programme is an individual and group programme integrated in the 12-day Stutter Therapy Programme, lasting 4 days, 5 hours a day. It has been designed for children after the age of 8 and it is required that at least one parent is in attendance during therapy sessions for children requiring supervision so they can apply these methods and techniques at home. There is no age limit for the therapy.

A suitably tailored programme is applied in accordance with the impairment and age of the applicant. Applications are submitted online. Individual therapies outside these programmes are designed for children with specific developmental speech and language disorders, children with autistic spectrum disorders, children with articulation disorders (dysphonia) and people with conditions relating to strokes (cerebrovascular accidents or CVAs), surgical tumour removal (tumourectomy) or traumatic head or body injuries.

TROG-2:HR
A Grammar Comprehension Assessment (Version 2) determines an understanding of Croatian grammar, including inflection and word function and order. TROG-2:HR allows an assessor to determine, through self-assessment, an understanding of grammar in comparison to other participants of the same age as well as specific areas of difficulty that exist. It is widely applicable as it covers an age range from 4 upwards.

PPVT-III
(the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test) is an assessment which measures a receptive (aural) knowledge of vocabulary. It can be used as part of triage process to assess the skills of children and adults, giftedness and underdevelopment, employment candidate potential and linguist proficiency (if applied to a test subject’s non-native language). Since it does not require reading or writing and is easy to use, PPVT-III is used to assess pre-school children, people who have difficulty with writing/written words, people who have tested poorly and those at age who have with speech defects. It is also used to measure the linguistic potential of people with impaired speech and the testing of people with various disabilities (autistic spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, psychotic symptoms and visual-perceptive problems and the like).

ADHDT
(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Test) is a standardised and normalised test designed to assess the behaviour of people with ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, people with behavioural problems and the diagnosis of students with ADHD. ADHDT is used to identify and assess individuals who have been sent for review owing to behavioural problems, determining individualised education programmes for specific students and measuring ADHD in research projects.
